My name is Amber and I have been in the dog grooming business for 14 years. Over the years, there were numerous occasions when, due to the uncooperative nature of my clients (ruff!) I had to use a plastic Elizabethan collar to get through the grooming session safely. I didn’t feel comfortable muzzling the animals….it just seemed to make them angrier. While the E-collar effectively kept the dogs from taking a bite out of me, it occurred to me that the plastic collar must be pretty uncomfortable. I decided to look for a “kinder, gentler” alternative. I found several products that were designed to replace the cold, hard plastic E-collar, but when I got the products in my hands, they, too, seemed just as cold, hard and uncomfortable. One reminded me of a folding lampshade and another, a life preserver. Not quite what I had in mind, so I borrowed a sewing machine and started working on a number of my own ideas. After a few failed attempts, I finally came up with a working model. I tried it out on a few of my naughty subjects, er, clients, and noticed right away how calm and cooperative they became while being groomed. They became less frightened and easier to handle. A client, whose dog had recently undergone surgery, expressed an interest in the collar and wished she had been able to use one to reduce the stress for her beloved companion during the healing process.
“Aha” moment!
This opened my eyes to a whole new application for the collar beyond a grooming aid. Since that day two years ago, I spent time making improvements to the design and materials until I was satisfied that I was ready to introduce CuddleCollar™ to the market. I thank all of the friends, clients, veterinarians and four-legged fur persons who helped the CuddleCollar™ evolve from the prototypes they tested for me. The result has been met with overwhelming approval!!!. I am thrilled that my idea has proven to be so beneficial for our furry friends when healing from surgery or coping with pain.
